MIAA general manager Jose Honrado said the NAIA-1’s two old turbines will break down if they are used 24 hours a day.
”The additional turbines generating about 7.8 megawatts will cost about P150-200 million and we have the money, so I gave the go signal to our airport engineers to prepare for the bidding,” he said.
Honrado said the two additional turbines would be set up within six to eight months beside the old turbines for easy interconnectivity.
“There would no longer be brownouts and electrical fluctuation once the turbines are installed,” he said.
Meanwhile, Honrado said he would “sanitize” the airport from unauthorized persons roaming the passenger terminals to stop human trafficking.
The MIAA would start screening the identification card and access pass of every employee at NAIA to determine up to what point they are allowed to roam, he added.
Honrado said about 20,000 access passes and identification cards were issued to employees at the airport, representing different government agencies, embassies and concessionaires.
Immigration and customs areas are restricted zones that must be sanitized of unauthorized people, he added.
